Henley 2k Indoor Rowing Championships 2009

On Saturday 5th December the first Henley 2k Indoor Rowing Championship took place at Upper Thames Rowing Club.

It was a great day and enjoyed by all particularly the youngsters who attended from local school, Rupert House and competed against one another. Veteran competitors who also took part in a 2k row had their own programme. One veteran put in a marvellous effort despite the fact it had been 50 years since his last row!

The organisers of the Henley 2k Indoor Rowing Championship would like to thank everyone who participated in the event. With special thanks to Steve Williams the double Olympic gold medallist for the encouragement he offered to the competitors and for presenting the medals.
The event was a great success and a commendable amount of money has been raised. Thank you to all of those who supported the event.

We hope you will come back next year and beat those times!!!

Overview

Upper Thames Rowing Club and Phyllis Court Rowing Club are proud to host their first ever 2000 metre indoor rowing competition. The event has been arranged to promote healthy exercise in a competitive but fun atmosphere. The Championship involves individual and team events.

Whether you are an experienced rower or have never used a rowing machine, the Henley 2k Indoor Rowing Championships will be an excellent opportunity for you, regardless of your age to engage in a physical and social tournament to improve motivation, technique and fitness. The event will be led by experienced rowers and possibly one or two rowing celebrities!!

Indoor rowing is growing rapidly in popularity. It is accredited as a training aid for the water based sport and has become an integral part of pre-race training for teams such as Oxford and Cambridge. It is also easily accessible as the equipment is commonly available in sports centres and gyms across the country.

There will be plenty of things to do between races including visiting the home of the Royal Regatta, Henley on Thames or taking a walk along the river.

With the support of many rowing clubs and schools in the area we hope to promote rowing as a sport which is physically challenging as well as exciting and sociable

Format of the day

The event will take place on Saturday 5th December 2009 at Upper Thames Rowing Club, Henley on Thames and the first race will begin at 1.30pm.
